Dental Implants in Kiev

Dental Implants

Placing Dental Implants is a popular treatment procedure, being in greater demand each year.

Dental implants not only fully restore chewing function, but also improve overall facial aesthetics. Jaw bones tend to reduce over time after tooth extraction, causing face to look much older. Traditional prosthesis does not prevent loss of bone tissue; on the contrary, using removable dentures may cause further loss of jaw substances.

Endosteal [endosseous] implant is the most common type of implants. Implant is a titanium structure implanted in the jaw and serving as the basis for fixing a new tooth. It connects firmly to the bone and has no risk of failure. Implant supported prosthesis look as naturally as real teeth do.

An important implant’s feature is its durability. Over 90% of implant supported dentures successfully serve for about 10 years. The lifetime of implants is not limited.

There are absolute and relative contra-indications to dental implants.

Absolute contra-indications

  • recent myocardial infarction or stroke
  • unstable angina
  • uncontrollable high blood pressure
  • decompensated diabetes mellitus
  • severe thyroid diseases
  • coagulation failure
  • epilepsy
  • immune deficiency

  • emerging infection diseases
  • mental disorders

Dental implants cannot be placed during pregnancy and skeletal growth period.

Relative contra-indications:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Diabetes
  • Compensated thyroid disease
  • Controlled cardiovascular diseases etc.

If patients with compensated common diseases, including diabetes, are properly prepared for the treatment, success rate for dental implants is 86-94%.

In Dental VixClinic, patients will always receive doctor’s advice on all the details of treatment in view of individual needs and features.

How are dental implants placed?

Dental implants are usually placed under local anesthesia, preceded by premedication, if necessary. Keeping to doctor’s recommendations will help patient to avoid complications.

First stage

The implant is buried in the bone. Healing period: 2-6 months for upper jaw, 2-4 months for lower jaw. The period depends on bone density. At this stage a missing tooth/teeth can be replaced by a temporary prosthesis.

Second stage

After implant is integrated with the jawbone, a healing cup is placed for gum tissue to grow and mature around it. At this stage peri-implant plastic can be done to form thick and beautiful soft tissue around the implant.

These healing caps will be removed within two weeks.

Third stage

If osseointegration process is not finished, temporary prosthesis will be used to gradually transfer the load on implant. After the jawbone matures and is strong enough to support a new tooth, temporary prosthesis is replaced with a permanent one. After the restoration dental therapist or prosthodontist will advice on required care for prosthesis and implant, make a schedule of check-ups and set up the next examination.
